Explore the Chechessee!
This unique kayak tour offers a glimpse into the less-seen areas of Beaufort County, near Hilton Head. The Chechessee River is a tidal waterway on the Port Royal Sound – which is the deepest natural harbor on the East Coast. The River is known for incredible, pristine natural environments and fantastic wildlife viewing, including dolphin, birds, fish and critters.
This trip embarks from The Port Royal Sound Foundation Maritime Center, which is housed in the renovated former Lemon Island Marina. The center opened in November 2014 and features exhibits, classrooms, hands-on learning spaces and other areas where you can learn about and celebrate Port Royal Sound. Everything at the Center is kid-friendly! There is no admission fee for the Maritime Center. Tours of the PRSF Maritime Center are self-guided with volunteer docents available to answer questions and assist as needed.
This kayak tour is open to all ages and experience levels. It will begin with a brief paddling clinic which covers the kayaking basics like how to sit, hold the paddle, strokes and maneuvers. Your guide will then launch you in our safe, comfortable kayaks. Once everyone is afloat, the tour will begin as your guide leads you to specific points of interest, pointing out wildlife and highlights along the way. A true Lowcountry experience you will not forget!
Includes: Professional guide, kayaking instruction, kayak, paddle, and lifejacket rental
Children under 12 must be on a tandem kayak with an adult.
