Spend July 4th On the Water

kayaker by fireworks

Not only is July 4th the best party of the year, it is also the pinnacle of our Summer season, a reminder that there are only four more months of fun in the sun left before the sleepy, cool season. The most difficult decision of the whole summer is what to do to for July 4th. There are lots of great options for daytime and evening activities – all capped off by the magnificent fireworks displays! These amazing trips are designed for those wanting to experience a real Lowcountry Independence Day under the stars!

Fireworks Sailing and Boat Cruises!

For those that like the idea of watching the display out on the water, but aren’t so excited about kayaking, there are similar type tours on motor boats. Boats can cover more ground than kayaks, so you will see more of the waterways, islands and marshes on the tour prior to the display. Your Captain will then anchor the boat for the Fireworks. If you prefer, choose to do this trip as a private charter, so it will be just your family on the boat. On a private charter you can also bring snacks and drinks.

Amazing Fireworks Paddle!

This trip begins with a 2 hour guided kayak tour and ends with watching the Shelter Cove HarbourFest fireworks out on the water. Your guide will lead you through a brief paddle clinic before launching out into the Broad Creek wildlife area. Your guide will lead you to different points of interest, all the while looking for dolphin and other wildlife and describing the history and culture of the area. At dusk, your group will gather together to watch the fireworks from your kayak. An amazing experience for all ages! Book early, this popular trip sells out!

Hilton Head Fireworks Displays

If you decide not to get out on the water, at least get nearby! Several waterfront restaurants offer great views of the fireworks displays, including Poseidon, Scotts Fish Market, The Boathouse, Up the Creek Pub and many more! Visit Shelter Cove Marina/Park, Palmetto Bay Marina, Broad Creek Marina or Skull Creek for options.

Whatever you choose to do this July 4th, keep in mind that the island is very busy and that parking and traffic gets gridlocked by early afternoon. Find your spot by midday and stay there or travel by bike or foot. Also keep in mind the safety of your group, sun protection and hydration are a must! If you happen not to be on the island for July 4th, there are also fireworks displays each Tuesday on the Broad Creek, with similar tour offerings around them. Whatever you choose to do this Independence Day, be sure and get outside and enjoy the Lowcountry!
