Fall is one of the best times to fish in the Lowcountry.
Cooler, mild weather means that anglers can stay out longer, more comfortably. Changing weather patterns also means changes in fish behavior. Bull Red Fish, which are large adult spot tailed bass, usually live offshore in deep waters. In the Fall, they come closer nearshore and into some inshore waterways to spawn. These large fish usually weigh between 20 and 30 pounds. The record Bull Red caught in South Carolina was a whopping 75 pounds! They are a great fight!
Inshore charters and kayak fishing trips also benefit from changes in fish behavior. With winter coming, many smaller species, including redfish and flounder, are heavy feeding. They take advantage of higher shrimp populations to stock up on nutrients for the cold season. This behavior makes for very exciting sight and flats fishing!
So get Outside fishing this fall!
