Outside’s Birding and Beachcombing kayak tour highlights the best of Hilton Head and the coastal Lowcountry. This four hour tour will take you deep into the marshy wilderness surrounding the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge for fantastic wildlife viewing including several bird species, Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, fish, trees, mink, shellfish and much more. This kayak tour includes stops on remote sandbars, shell banks and beaches, with time to explore and take in the incredible views.
Your guide is both an interpretive naturalist and kayak expert who will begin your adventure with a paddling clinic. After some instruction on strokes and maneuvers, your guide will launch you in a safe and comfortable single or double kayak. From there, your guide will lead you to different points of interests along the Skull Creek and the banks of the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, all the while telling you about the natural, historical and cultural significance of what you are seeing out there. We will also stop at shell banks, remote beaches or sandbars for bird watching, beachcombing and discovering!
This longer kayak trip is perfect for nature lovers – bring your binoculars! The marshes surrounding Pinckney Island are home to a wide variety of herons, eagles, osprey, live oak trees, Spanish moss plants, wild flowers, tailing redfish, playful dolphins, turtles and much more. In addition, Pinckney has a rich and interesting history dating from Native American settlement through the Antebellum Era, The Civil War, and Reconstruction. Your guide will show and tell you this as well as the Islands modern preservation history. The Birding and Beachcombing paddle offers great views of the bridges to Hilton Head, the Port Royal Sound and Beaufort. This trip is designed for ages thirteen and above who are either experienced paddlers or enthusiastic beginners. The tour includes guide, instruction, kayak rental, all stop and light snacks and refreshments.
