The Outside Hilton Head Staff

The staff at Outside Hilton Head is made up of a wonderful selection of outdoor enthusiasts all of whom are passionate about sharing their love of the South Carolina lowcountry with you. Below is some great information about the folks who work in the Outside Hilton Head office, retail locations and as kayak guides and USCG licensed captains. Allow us to introduce ourselves, then get OUTSIDE!

Mickey Price is Director of Program Operations for Outside Hilton Head. He's been around since 1981, and moved here full time in 1993. Mickey has been a USCG licensed Master Captain for 15 years. An avid fisherman and hunter, he is a member of the Bluffton Hilton Head Ducks Unlimited Committee supporting wetlands conservation. He is also a member of Delta Waterfowl. Mickey graduated from USC with a BA in Geography and is a proud Kappa Sigma! Though he spends alot of job time on the water, he goes back out in his free time to enjoy the beautiful salt marshes and off-shore environments of the South Carolina lowcountry. He is married to Stacy and has a chocolate lab named Baylee.

Sarah Panke (aka emu) is pleased to be moonlighting as a second-year kayak guide. This is her most recent professional expression of her love for the outdoors, having been a Virginia state park ranger in a previous life. It's ridiculous that
getting out on the water in a beautiful place with new people is a real job, but she won't look that gift horse in the mouth, even if she has to keep referring to herself in the third person. If she's not on the water, practicing swordfighting, watching rugby or at the Tiki Hut, Emu can be found at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina where she wonders how she got to be Assistant Stage Manager and surround herself with creativity, art and voluminous amounts of Silly. 'Get Outside! Hoka hey!"

George Myers grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and is a retired oral surgeon. He volunteers his services to Hilton Head's Volunteers in Medicine when he is not leading kayaking or boating excursions He joined Outside Hilton Head in 2001. He has a deep and abiding love of the outdoors and nature in general and is a valuable asset to OHH because of his experience and the wisdom that comes with age. He says these are the best years of his life.

Greg Smith is a native of Bluffton, SC and has been a kayak guide with OHH for 6 years. He loves everything about being OUTSIDE, "working with fun people, helping others have fun in the outdoors, and of course, just being outside". Greg is also the Reservations Manager for Outside Hilton Head.

Vernell Dorner has been with OHH for many years as a guide and retail associate. She is from the Outerbanks of NC. The variety of people, experiences and athletic environment at Outside Hilton Head are the highlights of her job.

Charlie Thorn was born in New York state and has lived in New York, North Carolina, New Jersey and Atlanta (in that order). He is a USCG licensed master captain with OHH and loves being OUTSIDE because every day is a new adventure!

Mark Mole is originally from Columbia, South Carolina. His many adventures have included hiking the Appalachain Trail when he was 19. A stint in the Navy allowed him to travel the world. When he wasn't on submarine duty he flyfished in New Zealand and backpacked through the AWESOME Blue Mountains outside Sydney Australia. He has taught snowboarding and flyfishing in Colorado, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. He is a kayak and fishing guide who brings to Outside Hilton Head his passion for all the amazing things that nature provides.

Tracie Martucci does everything in the office...office manager, sales, phones. She moved to Hilton Head Island 14 years ago from Troy, Michigan and says she loves all the people who work at Outside Hilton Head (and being on Patte's boat).

Mike McElhinny came to Hilton Head Island from Pittsburgh, PA. He loves experiencing the harmony that exists OUTSIDE, particularly on the water around the marshes. He has been a kayak guide with Outside Hilton Head for over 10 years.

Patte Ranney is originally from Rocky River, Ohio. She, and her husband Steve, have lived on Hilton Head Island for 30 years. They have a handful of children and 4 grands. A Team & Leadership Facilitator Training program on Page Island in January 2002 was the first of many awesome (and continuing) adventures as a Facilitator, Kayak Guide and USCG licensed Captain for Outside Hilton Head. When she's not on the water, Patte works on a plethora of other cool projects for OHH and enjoys a daily practice of yoga. A recent trip to India inspired her to get back into nature and landscape photography. She loves working OUTSIDE (no two days are ever alike!) and is passionate about being on the water.

Lindsay Bowerman is a kayak guide and retail associate with OHH. She joins us from Monroe, Connecticut. The best part about being OUTSIDE?..."it's when I feel closest to God".

Jean Fruh is a native upstate New York and has spent the last 23 years residing in Buckhannon, WV. She brings 25 years of teaching experience to OHH, including 20 years as a faculty member and Director of Athletic Training at West Virginia Wesleyan College. As akayak nature guide, she enjoys being 'outside' and sharing her passion for learning and teaching. "It's really a unique experience to teach in a 'classroom' where egrets, dolphin and osprey regularly visit."

Annette Cheek was raised on the beaches of Hilton Head Island, long before many of us had even heard about this great lowcountry oasis. She remembers, as a child, riding horses on the beach after school. How cool is that? A retired insurance agent, she now enjoys being a member of the OHH retail team. In her free time, Annette enjoys boating, crabbing, fishing and jet-skiing.
